Meet our Interim Priest-in-Charge
The Rev. Christopher M. Decatur
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Chris was ordained as a Transitional Deacon on May 26th, 2020, and as a Priest on January 6th, 2021, in The Diocese of Ohio. Chris is a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary ’20, where he received his Master in Divinity degree and a Certificate in New Mission Practices.
Before arriving at Holy Comforter, Chris served at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield, NJ, as their Assistant Rector for Young Families & Interim Director of St. Paul’s Day School. Chris served as the Priest in Charge of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Before being ordained to Holy Orders, Chris served at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., as a seminarian, and Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland as the Associate Minister for Children, Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministries.
Chris is active in the wider church and has served on The Taskforce for Liturgical and Prayerbook Revision, as a participant in the Preaching Excellence Program, as an Advisor for the Episcopal Discipleship initiative: “Baptized for Life”, as a writer for several Christian Education journals and is active within The Union of Black Episcopalians. Chris has an undergraduate degree in Comparative Religion from Cleveland State University and years of studies and practicing Early Childhood Education both at CSU and as a student at The Catholic University of America.
He is passionate about creating a space for all wonderers and seekers to explore faith!
When Chris is not at the Church, you might find him out on a jog, joining in on a fitness class, or exploring local cuisines with his fiancé, The Rev. Joseph Wallace-Williams (Rector at St. Luke and The Epiphany in Philadelphia).
